smarter hydronic systems for heat and cold

Where the transportation of heat and cold is concerned, water is significantly more efficient than air. This is because fluids have a better heat capacity than air. With their so-called ‘hydronic’ systems, the Aalberts hydronic flow control team offers solutions for the entire process, between source and emitter. The market demands increasingly smart systems that are better equipped to monitor and predict.

Take the ‘change-over’ systems, for example. These provide warmth in winter and cooling in the summer but make use of different source systems. Subtle fine-tuning is essential if these systems are to work properly. Because water ‘changes’ – it contracts and expands under the influence of temperature fluctuations, and a resulting change in pressure, for example, will affect the filling level of the expansion vessel. At the changeover moment both source systems get into contact with each other and pressure will be equalised so water will flow from the one into the other system. It’s therefore crucial that the heating system side can ‘communicate’ with the cooling system, to prevent them from counteracting each other. In addition, the system must always remain one step ahead of the user by offering a timely prediction of what is about to happen. This makes it possible to service at an opportune moment to prevent them from failing at an inopportune moment.

The smarter the system, the more efficient it is and the longer its lifetime will be. Property owners are increasingly aware of their ‘cost of ownership’ during the entire lifetime of a system. Aalberts’ solutions respond to this, more than the competition does. To be able to accurately monitor this, the systems are required to not only send the right signals within the system, but these signals also need to be comprehensible; they need to reach the system operator. We call this ‘connectivity in the boiler room’, and putting this into practice, is what makes Aalberts unique.
