world-record vibration isolation
- Aalberts advanced mechatronics cooperated with one of world’s leading suppliers of electron microscopes to develop a comprehensive portfolio of modules
- we engineered a solution that achieved a world-record breaking spatial high resolution on a sensitive scanning transmission electron microscope at the Tokyo University, Japan
As a specialist in the design, engineering and manufacturing of customised environmental control solutions for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-user applications that suffer from environmental disturbances, Aalberts advanced mechatronics is able to deliver high-end components and meet challenging requirements when customers demand it. One area of expertise is vibration isolation, where Aalberts advanced mechatronics has developed a comprehensive portfolio of modules that can counter any seismic, acoustic or vibrational disturbance.
At Aalberts, we know that complex challenges need smart solutions. Which is why we worked with one of the world’s leading suppliers of electron microscopes to create unique, fail-safe vibration isolation technology that enabled them to reach a spatial resolution on their scanning transmission electron microscope of 40.5 pm. Enough to break a world record.
"For over two decades we have helped provide greater clarity to a customer that supplies electron microscopes," says Roland Kappel, director of product development Aalberts advanced mechatronics. "We achieve this by developing systems that counteract residual floor vibrations. Recently, we engineered a solution that achieved a world-record breaking spatial high resolution on a sensitive scanning transmission electron microscope at the Institute of Engineering Innovation at Tokyo University, Japan, underlining our focus on going the extra mile for customers.”
day and night
To break the world record, Aalberts advanced mechatronics had to install isolation methods that reduce vibration and external interference on the customer’s scanning transmission electron microscope in a variety of ways. This included creating a system that could be used during the day, not only at night when vibrations are minimal, and installing an air spring that compresses and blocks any vibrations. "By letting the customer concentrate on their core business, we were able to utilise our design and engineering skills resulting in cutting-edge technical solutions that provide a true competitive advantage," Roland says.
